In winter, when the conditions are right, the 9.5 square km “Lac de Joux” in the Jura mountain range freezes completely to form the biggest natural skating rink in Europe. It becomes a fantastic playground for walkers, skaters and even sail cart fans. The banks of the lake are animated by food&drink stands. This year, only part of it was frozen but we could experience the freezing temperatures amplified by the strong winds. Due to Covid, even if the lake would have been fully frozen, the access wasn’t allowed (to avoid crowds as in busy days, they’ve counted around 1,000 people). It’s certainly a once in a lifetime experience.
