There are not too many places in Switzerland which offer campling facilities during the winter. But Engelberg does. We rented a van and tried out the Eienwäldli 5* camping. It had everything we needed; the infrastructure is clean and their restaurant was really top quality (we had dinner every day and we loved it!). The camping serves also as a sport hotel and has an inside heated swiming pool. We didn’t use it as it was a bit crowded during a snowy day. But we tried our the SPA at the Kempinsky Hotel located at the center of the town. What a treat!!!

Engelberg is not just a winter resort – it’s a winter paradise and one of the top 10 ski regions in Switzerland. The town offers such a variety of things to do that you will be tempted to extend your stay long enough to try everything.

We of course enjoyed a day going up to the Titllis (see dedicated post). We also tried out the sledding run, snowtubing and snowboarding. And we made some nice walks around town including a visit to the monastery.

Engelberg is located 25 km south of Lake Lucerne in a wide mountain valley at an altitude of around 1000 meters. At 3,239 meters, Titlis mountain with its glacier, and Hahnen mountain at 2,600 meters, are towering over the surrounding peaks.

The town of Engelberg is appealing because of its distinct and rustic character. The Benedictine monastery was founded in 1120 and has a great impact on the life of the village, even today. Monks still live, work and teach there. The homes left over from the Belle Epoque are also witnesses of that time period. In combination with the pleasant Swiss flair, the special architecture lends the village its very own charm.

I classified this post as an outdoors AND indoors (for the hotel and SPA facilities)
