When most people think of Zermatt, they think about one thing: The Matterhorn; the ultimate Swiss icon. It is like love at first time when you first lay eyes on the world’s most impressive mountain. From everywhere you stand in Zermatt, the omnipresent Matterhorn is demanding your full attention.
The village of Zermatt is lovely itself; it’s an interesting mix of old charming brown chalets and modern attractive architecture. It’s a car-free mountain village (with too many electric little cars in my opinion) in the middle of an enormous hiking and ski region. There are endless excursions and activities all year round. Worth to mention that Zermatt is Europe’s largest summer ski area; also the starting point for the ascent of 38 four-thousand-meter peaks. It is also the highest density of gourmet options in the Alps, so there’s pretty much something for every taste.
We did a short getaway and spent 3 days full of great activities which I’ll post separately. I would have definitely loved to stay a full week in order to complete my “to do list”, but we’ll have another opportunity.

I chose to classify this post within the outdoors activities even though there are several indoor places to visit in Zermatt when weather is not inviting. Also because we mostly did outdoor activities during our visit.
