Clarens, Montreux; Home Sweet Home!. We arrived here 15 years ago and we’re not ready to move. Nestled between steep hills and the lakeside plus the stunning Alps as background, Montreux is known for its mild microclimate, but not only. The Montreux Jazz festival, its beautiful Christmas market, the Chillon castle, the colorful and manicured promenade, the Freddie Mercury statue, the Chauderon gorges, the multiple restaurants and shops as well as the picturesque old town uphill are only some of the main attractions.

Biking or walking from Clarens to the fascinating castle of Chillon in Veytaux near Montreux is always a nice easy short and pleasant activity. The manicured gardens along the lakeside promenade of Montreux give the impression of being in an exotic location. Built on a rocky islet, the 12th century castle seems to be floating on the lake. It is Switzerland’s most visited historical monument. Surrounded by a natural moat, the castle can be accessed via the lake from all sides. It is considered a ‘waterside castle’. Chillon is connected to the land by a bridge (formerly a drawbridge, the remains of whose pulley system can still be seen). There are often events organized and exhibitions presented all year round. You will find a link to the page of Chillon for more details.

Personally, enjoying the sunset by the lake is always a pleasure.
